A important place to visit. In this place you can have a look on the architecture on that time. You will also learn about the important of Dejima and Nagasaki regarding the connection with the foreign countries. Here especially with the Netherlands, Portugal and China (but not much in this place for the latest).

Nice place where to spend an hour understanding the old days of Nagasaki

Very interesting to learn part of Nagasaki's history and culture. I really enjoyed seeing how the architecture was from way back when.

It has a lot of display, exhibition to enjoy to learn Japanese history. It was much fun than that I expected! I could spend here for many hours~

Excellent reproduction of history between Japan and the West. Really gives you a sense of a true trade balance that endured here amidst the exploitation waged by European powers across the rest of the world at the time. A credit to Japan and the Netherlands. Recommend immersing yourself for 2 to 3 hours. The English language coverage is extensive and very well narrated.

I wasn't expecting it but it was like a museum with bunches of things to learn about.

Interesting History Lesson. English no problem
Watinee Pianpichitara
Good staff, plenty of history

As a Westerner I think it was less interesting than it would be for Japanese people. There were a few fascinating things, but only a few.

Took me a while to find it! I somehow expected it to be near the ocean. That surely did change! We had a great time visiting this historical place and would love to learn more about it. I just kind of missed a Dutch and Japanese flag on the territory symbolizing the shared historical value to it.

Great site with tons of information in English explaining the involvement of the Dutch trading during the seclusion period of Japan.Beautiful rebuilt building with traditional materials and technic. It's a must to see in Nagasaki

It's a very informative place filled with interesting information about the location and the role played internationally and domesticly. The exhibitions we're well designed and meaningful to local Japanese and foreigners. It's clean and layed out nicely. Highly recommended.

I can see Indonesia's history here as well

It's a cool, historical place, absolutely worth a visit. Lots of houses, living spaces and... things to look at and read about. The miniature version is cool, and the whole place is very easily accessible, with the tram stop just in front of the side entrance (that closes before the main one, so go around of you're there after I think 18:00 or 19:00). Beware that not all the buildings are authentic, or actually old. Which at least I could feel. And the whole original "island" (it hasn't been an island for quite a while) hasn't been rebuilt yet. It's a nice place to have been to, and to actually have seen. Quite unique, that's for sure.

Very well done historical museum. They have reconstructed the old town to give you a sense of what life was like there. Lots of good English explanations and videos, great detail on the Dutch trading empire. Highly recommend reading David Mitchell's "Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet" if you enjoy this site.

Dejima (Γ₯β‘ΒΊΓ₯Β³ΒΆ) was a man-made island in the port ofΓΒ Nagasaki, constructed in 1636 to segregate Portuguese residents from the Japanese population and control their missionary activities.

Very well executed exhibition of how the Dutch settlement looked like.

So Dejima is quite a special place at the moment. It turns out the city of Nagasaki has tried to restore the island/trade post to an original state since the 1950`s. Only since the late 2000's significant steps have been taken and by now its pretty historic accurate as of around 1860. In the coming years it will be fully restored as an island.

If you like history, especially the colonizing period of Europeans, their influence on Asia, prepare to be here couple hours. Well worth it!

Dejima was a Dutch trading post in the 1600s to 1800s and the area has some remnants of what's left. Nice place to visit if you're interested in cultural areas. Take note that there's an entrance fee! There's some hands on stuff and alot of buildings with their own unique characteristics. Nice atmosphere but nothing super spectacular imo.

Visited during winter, 2020 with family. Historic place where the portugese and the dutch first arrived and estabilished this colony. Over periods of urbanisation and development through land reclaimation, the island is now surrounded by nearby streets and building and is now a tourist attraction. A lot to see within the area, from history, to shops. the highlight of this place is the captain's resident where the house is redecorated to represent the 1500s. Friendly staff members and well worth your time.
James Julian
Extremely informative. Several exhibits that explain the history of Dejima, the hands it passed through, and the relationship between Japan and Western (Dutch, Portuguese, other) powers.
Eric Ljungberg
While this is a very interesting historical place, the reconstructed buildings are worth seeing but the interiors are mostly nothing.
Seah Nigel
A rich source of historical and cultural information on Nagasaki/Japan. Set aside enough time to prevent rushing through the exhibits

World heritage site, great historical site a must to visit when in Nagasaki

If you like antient / old japanese village style, you will fall in love in Dejima. It's easy to access by Nagasaki streetcar (Tram).

A fascinating site that gives a glimpse into what life in Nagasaki was like when Japan was closed off to the public. A lot of interactive exhibits and gift shops. Well worth of visit if you're in Nagasaki. Centrally located so you can walk to Chinatown and other tourist areas.
Chris Chan
Surprisingly long street of reconstructed old Dutch buildings which provide insight to foreign trade in Nagasaki area long ago. Many display cases and helpful staff in samurai costumes. There's also a kimono rental for anyone interested

A wonderfully dedicated restoration project, highlighting the historical relationship of the Dutch VOC and the Japanese Edo (and Meiji) period government. Next phase begins soon so visit before it goes under construction.

Nice small street made to represent early times in Nagasaki when there was dutch influence. Entry fee is around 500 yen. The remake of old town dejima is around 200m long with housing quarters on both sides of the main street. You can learn a lot about the history of Dejima, with lot of videos, artefacts, museum and remakes of housing quarters for you to see. It can be a bit boring to some people but its something different to do in Nagasaki.Expect to spend around 1-3 hours depending on how much you want to see.

For the price you pay, itΓ’β¬β’s really a STEAL!! you get to see a whole small town and interact with so many things thatΓ’β¬β’ll teach you what it was like back in Dejima. ItΓ’β¬β’s also a great photoshoot place, you can also rent a kimono/yukata! This place is a MUST! We went on a rainy day so my photos look unprofessional.

Incredibly interesting history and authentic recreation of the actual trading post it used to be. Interesting to learn too, what Europeans brought to Japan and vice versa, and how that influenced each side. Excellent exhibits, some beautiful artwork and artifacts to be seen, and the interiors of the various rooms and warehouses were recreated too. The restoration of Dejima as it was under the Dutch VOC is still a work in progress but has advanced considerably and you could spend a good 3 to 4 hours here if you'd take your time with the exhibits and read the texts/displays. Guides are offered in a plethora of languages and displays are offered in Japanese and English.
Erena Norris
Interesting historic town - again lovely young ladies wearing kimono, beautiful to see and visit.
Toshikazu Matoi
was good to explore historical area.
siyanie Taylor
Neat historical part of the area. Worth a look.

Well worth a visit to understand the trade and history relationship between Japan and the Netherlands/Western culture back in that time. Most of the buildings here are replicas of the original but as this is Japan they have made a good replica of it. Only improvement would be the short film in the place - it was not very well made with the English subtitles being too long and moved too fast. Best thing is that the museum is open till late. The night lighting around the place is very nice.
Marc Polyphony Obrecht
Living history brought back in Nagasaki. I enjoyed it tremendously. It is a beautiful place with a decent historical context. There are not many places that remind so vividly to Japans history. If you can also visit Hirado.
Ken Ho
Historical Dutch outpost and Japan's one and only gateway to the West for centuries, recreated in great detail to give you a glimpse of Nagasaki of centuries ago.
Soottipong Winyoopradist
Must visit in the late afternoon till evening. Then you have chance to appreciate night scene of Dejima especially on the full moon night.
Laurens
Interesting place which show the history of Europeans entering and engaging with the Japanese economy. However, the place is really not aimed at European tourists. Little non-japanese information, quite expensive to enter, and little to do. Good free WiFi and interesting little cafe, but that's about it.
Bert Danckaert
Food was nice but way too expensive for what it was. Unexperienced but very friendly waiters.
David
Interesting excavation and restoration of one of the oldest parts of Nagasaki. Given the terrible event of 1945 it is remarkable that any records existed. Interesting to see old Japan as opposed to the ultra modern place it now is.
